Historical Mysteries
by Robin Paige

Historical mysteries are fun for readers (and for writers!) because the action is set in an era other than our own. The author tries to recreate the period setting as richly and accurately as possible, using details of dress, food, vehicles, settings, politics, music, literature, and speech. In the best historicals (at least from our point of view), the author also uses a narrative style that is consistent with the period. In our books, historical characters appear together with the fictional characters, although some writers of historical mysteries use only fictional characters.

Mysteries have been set in every imaginable epoch and culture—there are enough to keep you reading for a couple of centuries! Rather than compile a long list of titles, we suggest that you consult the following web pages, which offer many different compilations of historical mysteries.
